Preston Goes to Preschool!

I can't believe my little guy is going to school! So, as you may know, Preston is super smart. He knew his letters well before he turned two years old. He could count to 100 by the time he turned four. He can read really well and is great at sounding out words he doesn't know. My kid is smart. But he is having a hard time with other aspect of life that he needs to know. Mostly social things - how to play with other kids (he does what is called parallel play, where he plays next to or near other kids but doesn't play with or engage with the other kids) and how to work in groups. He need some work on some self help things and on fine motor skills. Enough that he qualifies for help through the Boise Schools early intervention program. We met with his preschool teacher about a month ago and he started school at Amity today. Ak! We had to put our sweet, kind, quiet little boy on the bus. A real school bus! If not for preschool, he would not have ridden the bus until junior high, since we are so close to the elementary school. So that is something we have had to wrap our brains around. But he did great. He puts on a little harness thing and they buckle him to straps on the seat so he doesn't fall off. It's cute. There is one other girl on the bus when he gets picked up and she sits by him and the driver said they talked a bunch. Yay! I got a call from his teacher just after school got out (he goes in the morning, from 9am to noon) and she said he did great, followed directions and had fun. He got to play on the playground and liked that. And he brought home his first of many things he made at school. And it was fun to go out and meet him at the bus. He was happy and said he had a good time. I'm glad it was not super stressful for him, sometimes he gets overwhelmed. It helps to have great people working with him and keeping him safe. Enjoy a few pictures from our morning.
Wow. Sorry for the wall of text. No matter what I do, it will not put in hard returns in the post. No paragraphs. So lame! Sorry.

Jeff qualified for the same preschool program when he was three, for speech therapy. I remember putting him on the bus for the first time--he was so little!
