Every night at bedtime we read a book to Preston. Every night is the same book. You know the one, I'm sure you have heard of it. Yup, Goodnight Moon. I wanted to have a bedtime routine for him and I'm sure I will add more books of his choice as he gets older but for now, this is the one book that helps him to know that it's time to settle down. He likes it. Bradley and I trade off reading each night. It's fun.

I'm pretty sure Preston doesn't mind that it's the same every night but Bradley and I got a little bored at one point. That, and we noticed that in the beginning, when you are first seeing everything in the great, green room, you see the telephone but don't say goodnight to it later. And yet, there is a page where you say goodnight to nobody. What is up with that?

So Bradley and I started saying goodnight to other things in the room, just to make it more interesting for us. It's become quite the game for us to find something new to say goodnight to. I think we are about out of new things, though and will have to start over. But just for fun, here are some of the things we have said goodnight to:

the telephone
the fireplace
the dresser
the night table
the firewood
the big braided rug
slippers
tiger striped rug
fireplace tools
the spoon in the mush
the book of goodnight moon on the dresser
the sculptures on the mantle
curtains
windows
blanket
pillow
bed
the rocking chair
ball of yarn
knitting needles
clothes pins
laundry drying rack
bookshelf
various stuffed animals on the bookshelf
painting of fly fishing bunny
picture of cow jumping over the moon in the picture of the three bears sitting on chairs
curtain rods
blue striped pajamas
book of runaway bunny on bookshelf (a book by the same author)

And I am sure there are a few others that we had come up with but I can't remember right now. But it is fun for Bradley and I, as we read, to see what the other person is going to say that night. We get some giggles out of it. Makes bedtime a little more fun.

Who knew there were so many things you could say "good night" to in that book. Way to go in keeping a good evening routine with your little one. That is awesome.
